If you have open ended problems with unknown path to solution - I'm your guy. Have spent the past decade working through software, and 3 years of it working within tech companies. To the team, I bring strong intuitions of the overall field that have been developed over the decade. These naturally end up spreading within the teams and orgs I work with.

My personal metric of effective competence is simple:
I should be able to build up an "internet based product" company from scratch from the technical side.

I will:

• Lead technical development and delivery through a team, by providing clear direction and tasks
• Help set up the development and delivery roadmap, along with metrics to track progress
• Uncover actual business requirements, build/negotiate consensus among stakeholders in face of ambiguity

Naturally, I require a lot of autonomy to be effective. Ideally, you state your desired outcome, timelines, resource-budgets. I'll figure out the rest - the plan, the execution, and the metrics/tracking.
